If you recently upgraded to the Windows 10, you might have noticed that by default the Windows 10 comes with a default Windows 10 Background. The default background looks great and would work fine for most of the people. However, some people prefer to customize every bit of their PC or OS in general. Fortunately, Windows 10 does allow you to customize your PC the way you want it. If you want to change Windows 10 login screen background, you can do that as well. Here is a simple guide on how to do it.

A good thing here is that apart from changing the Windows 10 login screen background, you can also change the color of the background screen or set it to a single color. So, we will see how to do all of these things in Windows 10.

Set a Color as Windows 10 Login Screen Background

Not all of us like to have to a wallpaper as our login screen background. I am one those who rarely customize my devices or PC. So, for the people who want a minimal customization, you can set Windows 10 login screen background to a color. The catch here is that this is not a built-in feature in Windows 10. Hence to achieve it you got to make some changes in the Windows 10 registry to be able to change the Windows 10 login screen background color. Here is how to do it.

Note: Editing your Windows registry involves risk. It is recommended that you create a system restore point before attempting any changes. Follow this guide how to create System Restore Point in Windows 10 to learn how to do it.

In Search/Cortana type Regedit and hit enter. This will open Registry Editor window.

Now navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwarePoliciesMicrosoftWindowsSystem.

Here you have to create a new DWORD value. So, click Edit > New and select DWORD (32-bit) Value. If asked to enter a name, enter DisableLoginScreenBackgroundImage.

Next, right-click on the newly created DWORD value and select Modify.

Inside it, set its value as 00000001. Click OK to save the settings

Once you have saved the changes, close the registry editor.

To see if the changes have been applied, press Windows Key + L and your login screen background should be set to a single flat color.

Change the Login Screen Background Color

Now that you have set a single color as the Windows 10 Login screen background, it is time to know how to change it. By default the color of the login screen background will be default color that you have selected in the desktop. You can change the color from the Personalization Menu in Windows 10.

Right-click on the desktop and select Personalize.

Under Personalization go to Colors tab. Here turn off the Automatically pick an accent color under Choose a Color option.

Next, choose a color from the given options.

If you want more color option or if you don’t find your favorite color in the options then you can easily create your own color.

Press Windows Key + R. Type rundll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL desk.cpl,Advanced,@Advanced  and hit enter.

This will open Color and Appearance settings window. This is an advanced setting, and you won’t find it under Control Panel/Appearance and Personalization section if you look for it.

Inside the Color and Appearance window, click on Show Color Mixer.

Use the Hue, Saturation and Brightness slider to create your preferred color. Once created, click on Save changes to save the color.

Change Windows 10 Login Screen Background Image

By default, the Windows 10 does not come with any built-in option which can allow you to change the Windows 10 login screen background image. However, there are third-party tools available for free, which can do this task for you. Before you download and run these tools, note that these are third-party tools and are not associated with Microsoft.

One of such tool is Windows 10 Login Changer. It is a free tool developed by Alphawaves from the MDL forums. Let’s see how to use Windows 10 Login changer to change the login screen background in Windows 10.

Note: Before you proceed, make sure you undo any changes you have done in the first method that is setting login screen background to a single color.

After downloading it, run it as Administrator.

As the tool is running, click anywhere inside the tool and select the image that you want to set as the Windows 10 Login screen background.

Apply the changes and you are done. To check your new Windows 10 login screen background, press Windows Key + L. You can also do few other kinds of stuff from the Advanced tab of the same tool.
