Tips to Increase Battery Life of PS4 Dualshock 4 Controller


The Playstation 4 comes with Dualshock 4 controller, and it is the improved version of previous gen console’s controller.  However, when compared to the PS3’s controller, you will notice that PS4’s Dualshock 4 controller gives 5-6 hours of battery life compared to around 18 hours in the Dualshock 3 Controller.

One cause for its low battery life could be because of the availability of more features on Dualshock 4 controller than on Dualshock 3 controller. Now if you are an avid gamer who plays continuously for hours then you might find the low battery life of your Dualshock 4 controller a bit frustrating as you have to charge it in every few hours.

Now to solve this issue, you can do two things. First, buy another Dualshock 4 controller and have continues gameplay or try to improve the battery life of your PS4’s Dualshock 4 Controller.

You can improve the battery life of your Dualshock 4 controller by tweaking few setting in the device which are unnecessarily consuming your battery life. Here is how you can extend the battery life of your PS4’s Dualshock 4 Controller.

Tips to Increase Dualshock 4 Controller Battery Life

1. Vibration

The rumble effect does feel great on your PS 4’s Dualshock 4 controller. However, this also drains battery of your device faster. Basically, it is recommended to turn off the Vibration on your Dualshock 4 controller to increase the battery life.

To disable vibration on your Duashock 4 Controller, go to Settings > Devices > Controller. Under Controllers section, Disable Vibration, which might be set to enable by default.

2. Decrease the Volume 

You can connect your headphone to PS4’s Dualshock 4 controller to hear the gameplay audio. However, this feature also effects your controller’s battery life. What you can do is, decrease the volume of the controller a bit or according to your requirement. To do this go to Settings > Devices > Controllers > Volume Control . Now you can decrease or increase the Volume of your controller.

3. Turn of the Controller When not in Use

Why keep your Dualshock 4 controller on all the time even when it’s not in use or idle state? So, it’s recommended to turn off the PS 4 controller when it’s in idle state. You can set the controller to turn off automatically after 10 minutes or more. To do this, go to Settings > Power Save Settings >  Set Time Until Controllers Turn Off. Next, you can set the Automatic Turn Off time to anywhere between after 10 minutes to after 60 minutes. Alternatively, you can also turn off the controller manually by pressing and holding the PS button for 10 seconds.
