How to Fix The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error in Windows 8

Disable your Anti-Virus program

If you are getting The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error, Please rerun backup once issue is resolved”  error then try temporarily disabling your Anti-virus program and see if it resolves the issue.  Your security tool could also cause this error resulting in error while creating backup.

Boot into Safe Mode

If disabling anti-virus doesn’t fix this issue, then the problem could be with other programs installed on your PC. Start your Windows 8 PC into Safe Mode. Once booted in to safe mode, try to perform a backup and see if you face same error. If you are able carry out the operation successfully that means, one of the installed third-party program is causing this error.

Check your Hard Disk for possible error

If the above two methods are not working then the problem could be with your hard disk and not with your installed programs. To check your Hard Disk for error type in the following command in the command prompt window.

Chkdsk /R D:

/r is a chkDsk command to check your hard disk and identify the error and perform a recovery. The D is your disk letter.  Replace D with the disk letter you want to check for errors. Next the command prompt will ask you whether you would like to force a dismount on this volume. Type N for No.

Next, you will be asked whether you would like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts? Type Y for Yes.

Now close all the programs and save any documents if opened. Restart your Windows 8 PC and wait until your hard drive is checked for possible errors. Once your PC is rebooted, try to perform the backup again and see if you get “The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error, Please rerun backup once issue is resolved” error. In most cases the error should disappear once you follow any of the above or all of the above methods.
