Motorola Moto G 2nd Gen (2014) has recently received the Android 5.0 Lollipop update. Although, the update brought several new features to the device, it wasn’t bug free. Now if you are looking for a way to install Custom ROM on your device then here is how you can unlock the bootloader of Motorola Moto G 2nd Gen (2014).
How to Motorola Moto G (2nd Gen) Bootloader on Android 5.0 Lollipop
Note: Unlocking the bootloader will void your device warranty. Proceed at your own risk.
- Full charged device (100% recommended) and remove your external SD card (if any)
- Create complete Backup of your Motorola Moto G
- Download and install Motorola Moto USB Drivers on your PC (skip if you have already installed)
- Download and install Minimal ADB and Fastboot on your PC
Step 1: Turn off your Moto G and activate Fastboot mode by pressing and holding the Power button + Volume down button simultaneously.
Step 2: Connect your device to your computer using USB cable. Wait till the USB drivers are installed.
Step 3: Next, open ADB and Fastboot folder, hold shift and right-click and select Open Command Prompt Here.
Step 4: In the command prompt window, type in fastboot oem get_unlock_data and hit enter.
Step 5: After entering the command, you will see a string of code. Copy the entire code and paste it in a note pad and save the file.
Step 6: Now you have to register your device on Motorola website. Visit Motorola website and register using your email ID. After registering, scroll down and paste the code that you had copied from Command prompt and request for an unlock code.
Step 7: If your device is supported then you will get the unlock code on your email. If you have received the code then again open the command prompt same way, and enter the following command:
fastboot oem unlock
Step 8: Next, you will be asked to confirm the decision of unlocking the bootloader. Confirming it by clicking on OK.
That’s it. Wait till your device’s bootloader is unlocked. Your Moto G 2nd Gen will reboot with an unlocked bootloader.
