Windows Phone 8.1 running smartphone have equalizer settings for Music inbuilt, however you can’t change the settings of equalizer if you are playing music on your device without headphone. Currently, you have to plug in your headphone before you can use and change equalizer settings on your Windows Phone 8.1 smartphones.
Now if you own a latest Lumia Windows Phone 8.1 smartphone with denim update then do try to change equalizer settings without plugging in your headphones. Windows Phone 8.1 powered devices like Lumia 730, the latest mid-range smartphone from Microsoft will allow you to change equalizer settings on your device even if you are on your device speakers. Follow below steps to check if your Windows Phone Lumia device allows you to change equalizer settings on speakers without plugging in your headphone.

Note: Remove or Unplug your headphones if you have connected it to your smartphone.
Step 1: Tap on Setting on your Windows Phone 8.1 device with Denim update.
Step 2: Tap on Equalizer and see if it allows you to change settings in it.
Step 3: If supported by your device, you should be able to change your equalizer settings.
Do note that, this feature may not be available or enabled on all the Windows Phone 8.1 running devices except recently launched devices including Microsoft Lumia 535, 730 and 830. If you have installed latest developer preview, then it may work for you. However, if you are unable to change equaliser settings on your device, wait until Microsoft rolls outs its latest update which may enable this feature.
