Along with several other new features, Instant HotSpot is yet another feature you could take advantage on your Yosemite running Mac with iOS 8 running iPhone. Follow this guide to know how to enable Instant Hotspot on Yosemite Mac and iOS 8 iPhone or iPad.
Using WiFi hotspot on iPhone and iPad is not something new, but the latest Instant Hotspot feature on Yosemite makes it even easier to use Hotspot feature on your Mac and iPhone. If properly configured, you could use your iPhone network on your Mac to browse the web.

After configuring instant Hotspot, you can connect your Mac using your iPhone’s WiFi Hotspot. After you have used your hotspot once, the next time you try to access internet on your Mac, you will be asked if you want to use your hotspot again.
Note: This should work on latest iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. However, you may find it difficult to use it on older iPhone and iPad. Nevertheless, give it a try and let us know whether it's working on your device or not.
What you need?
- iPhone or iPad running on latest iOS 8.1 operating system
- Mac running latest OS X Yosemite
- Make sure that you are signed into your iCloud account on both the devices (Mac and iPhone or iPad). Use same account on both the device.
How to Enable Instant Hotspot
Step 1: Enable WiFi on your iPhone: Go to Settings > tap on WiFi and turn it on.
Step 2: Enable Bluetooth on your iphone: Go to Settings > tap on Bluetooth and turn it on.
Step 3: Now Enable WiFi on your Mac: Go to System Preferences > WiFi and Turn on WiFi.
Step 4: Enable Bluetooth on your Mac: Go to System Preferences > Bluetooth and turn Bluetooth ON.
Step 5: On your Yosemite running Mac, click on WiFi icon in the Menu bar.
Step 6: Here you should see all the available WiFi Hotspots. If your iPhone’s WiFi and Bluetooth is On then you should see your iPhone being listed in the available WiFi networks.
Step 7: Click on it to connect to your iPhone WiFi hotspot.
Step 8: If successfully connected, you could see a “Personal Hotspot: 1 Connect” message on your iPhone’s or iPad’s screen.
Step 9: Start using internet on your Yosemite running Mac through your iPhone or iPad WiFi hotspot.
