What you need?
- iPhone running on latest iOS8 or later
- Mac Running on OS X Yosemite
- iCloud account signed to both the accounts.
Note: SMS forwarding is confirmed to work on latest iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. According to Apple, it should work also work on all the iPhones running iOS 8. Do let us know your device name if you found it working in the comments below.
How to Enable SMS Forwarding on Yosemite Mac
Step 1: Open Messages app on your Mac, click on Messages > Preferences.
Step 2: Click Account tab, select your iCloud account. You could add your iCloud account by click on + button (if not already added).
Step 3: Under your Apple ID, check / tick “Enable this account”.
How to Enable SMS Forwarding on iOS 8.1 iPhone and iPad
Before proceeding with below steps, Sign in to your iCloud account using Apple ID. With the same icloud account, you signed in on your Mac.
Step 1: Go to your menu and tap on Settings.
Step 2: Scroll down and tap on Messages.
Step 3: Tap on Text Message Forwarding.
Note: You should have your iMessage service linked with your phone number and Email address to see Message forwarding option.
Step 4: Under Text Message Forwarding, you should see all the devices capable of receiving and sending SMS / MMS from and to your iPhone.
Step 5: Now select your Mac from the list of available devices.
Step 6: Once you select your Mac, you will see a 6 digit code on your Mac screen.
Step 7: Enter that 6 digit code on your iPhone and tap on Allow button. This will pair your iPhone with your Mac to receive and send SMS and MMS.
How to Send and Receive SMS on and from your Mac
Now whenever you will receive a new text message it will appear on your Mac. You can also reply to your messages directly from your Mac.
