How to Use Gmail Offline on Google Chrome


Gmail is one of the most popular free email service providers and Google always keeps on adding new features to its product to make it even better and to stay ahead of its rivals. Google introduced a new feature to its Gmail service that is Gmail offline. Gmail offline allows you to access your important email from Gmail even if you do not have  a working internet connection.


Gmail offline is just an app for Google Chrome and not a built-in feature on Gmail. What Gmail Offline app does is it stores your Gmail emails offline on Google Chrome and allows you to access all the emails from Google Chrome. This feature comes in handy when you do not have access to the internet, but want read or compose an important mail.

Using Gmail offline is very easy. All you have to do is install Gmail Offline app on your Google Chrome. Once done sign into your Gmail account and allow this app to download your emails for offline use.  You can read email, search them and you can also create an email, but the email will be queued until you connect to the internet.  Below is the same in a step-by-step guide.

How to Use Gmail in Offline on Google Chrome

Step 1: Install Gmail Offline App

The first step is to install Gmail Offline from chrome store on Google Chrome. To install go to Gmail Offline, click on “+ Free” button and then on “Add”.


Once installed you can find this app on Chrome App list store by going here chrome://apps/  (copy and paste this address into your Chrome address bar).


Step 2: Setup Gmail Offline App

Now click on Gmail Offline App and sign in to your Gmail account if you are not already logged in.

If you are already signed in then, select allow Gmail offline and click on continue.


Now the app will start to synchronize all the email from your Gmail account to your Chrome browser for offline access.


If you want to download the only email from past week or month, then you can do this by clicking on Gear icon, now from the drop down select list week or past month.



Next time if you want to read any Gmail mail offline then click on Gmail Offline app from Chrome apps store, or you can also access chrome store by typing this address ( chrome://apps/ ) on your Chrome browser address bar. To compose a new email, click on Compose icon (pencil icon) and type your email. This email will be sent when you connect to the internet again.
