Google Maps is one of the best mapping and navigation solution available on your Android phone. Google Maps provides most accurate navigation maps based on your location. But Google Maps certainly also has a downside, and that is; it needs fast internet data connection to retrieve map locations and data. It works best on 3G and 4G network supported by your carrier.
If you have slow internet connection, then it takes lots of time to load the Map, or what if your Android phone does not have network signals? You are lost in the middle of nowhere. Well, having an offline map on your phone would solve that problem, only if Google Maps had an offline feature. Unfortunately, Google Maps still don’t have an offline feature.
Well, you can use Google Map offline with a little workaround and making use of the newly released feature along with an update. With the new update, Google allowed the users to save the portion of the Map and view them offline without the need for data connectivity, but in the latest Google Maps update this feature was removed from the app.
Now here is a simple workaround that allows you to save Google Map to use it offline. Follow below steps to save keep and use Google Maps Offline.
Note: This trick has the limitation of 100MB. Means you cannot save Map data of more than 100MB.
Save and Use Google Maps Offline
Step 1: Download and Install Google Maps from Google Play Store.
Step 2: Now open Google Maps.
Step 3: In Google Maps, search or type the area name you want to save for offline use.
Step 4: Since it has the limitation of 100MB, Zoom into your selected area.
Step 5: Now click on the search icon and type “OK maps” and again click on the search icon.
Step 6: Now you should see a message on your screen “The on-screen map area has been cached.”
Step 7: That’ it! Now you can access that portion of Google Map for offline use.
This tutorial is for Android Phones users. If you use an iOS device like iPhone or iPad, then also follow same steps to save Google Map for offline use.
This is not an excellent solution to the problem that Google Maps users face due to the lack of support for Offline maps in Google Apps, but it would certainly float your boat until Google releases the offline feature for its Google Maps service in the future. Google did announce that the offline feature is coming to the Google Maps soon but was not kind enough to release the date. Hopefully, we will be able to see the offline map feature in the Google Maps very soon.
